  writing stories about freakish little girls with powers because she secre
 tly wanted to be one. She has been nominated for the Aurora Award for Best
  Young Adult novel and works in the community doing writing workshops for 
 youth and adults.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Her latest series\, <em>The Bones of Ruin
 </em>\, releases its second novel <em>The Song of Wrath</em> in April 2023
 .</p>\n<p>Her research concerns&nbsp\;representations of race and gender i
 n popular media culture\, youth culture and postcolonialism. She has edite
 d special issues&nbsp\;in academic journals such&nbsp\;<em>Safundi\,&nbsp\
 ;Popular Music and Society</em>\, and&nbsp\;<em>Atlantis: Critical Studies
  in Gender\, Culture and Social Justice</em>. She&rsquo\;s also written fr
 eelance pieces for&nbsp\;<em>The Conversation\, Quill &amp\; Quire</em>&nb
 sp\;and&nbsp\;<em>Zora</em>&nbsp\;Magazine.</p>\n<p>This interactive onlin
