Local children&rsquo\;s fantasy author\, < a href="https://jessicavitalis.com/">Jessica Vitalis\, is coming back to WPL for her special "The Story Behind the Story" presentation. She will share tips\, tricks\, and wisdom about the writing process. For kids ages 8 to 12 years old.
\nThis presentation includes the inspiration beh ind T he Rabbit's Gift\, a short reading\, stories of tenacity and pers everance related to the author&rsquo\;s unusual childhood and her 14 year journey to publication\, and a peek at the revision process (including the most important item in her writer&rsquo\;s toolbox!).
\nAbo ut the Author:
\nJESSICA VITALIS is a Columbia MBA-wielding writer. She brings her experience growing up in a non-traditional childho od to her stories\, exploring themes such as death and grief\, domestic vi olence\, and socio-economic disparities. With a mission to write entertain ing and thought-provoking literature\, she often includes magic and fantas tical settings. As an active volunteer in the kidlit community\, she&rsquo \;s also passionate about using her privilege to lift up other voices. She founded Magic in the Middle\, a series of free monthly recorded book talk s\, to help educators introduce young readers to new stories. Her work has been translated into three languages\, and she was recently named a 2021 Canada Council of the Arts Grant Recipient and featured on CBCs Here and N ow. An American expat\, she now lives in Canada with her husband and two p recocious daughters. She loves traveling\, sailing and scuba diving\, but when she&rsquo\;s at home\, she can usually be found reading a book or cha nging the batteries in her heated socks. The Wolf&rsquo\;s Curse and a sta ndalone companion novel\, The Rabbit&rsquo\;s Gift\, are out now with Gree nwillow/HarperCollins. Two more books\, Coyote Queen\, and an unnamed stan dalone\, will follow in 2023 and 2024.
