Join us for an evening with Carolyn Huizinga Mills\, local fiction wri ter and teacher as she discusses her second adult fiction novel Sins of the Da ughter.
\nAbout Carolyn Huizinga Mills:
\nEver since reading L.M. Montgomery&rsquo\;s Emily of New Moon as a c hild\, Carolyn Huizinga Mills has dreamed of being an author. She didn&rsq uo\;t start writing seriously\, though\, until she had done practical thin gs like finishing university and finding a job. She began with short stori es\, then progressed to picture books and novels.
\nShe describes he r first two novels\, The Good Son (Cormorant Books\, 2021) and Si ns of the Daughter (Cormorant Books\, 2022)\, as character-driven fam ily dramas with a hint of mystery. \; Driven by an underlying interest in human behaviour and motivation\, in these first two novels she was dra wn to explore the complex relationships between siblings\, as well as betw een mothers and daughters.
\nCarolyn has also written two picture bo oks\, The Little Boy Who Lived Down the Drain (Fitzhenry &\; W hiteside\, 2017) and Grandpa&rsquo\;s Stars (Fitzhenry &\; Whi teside)\, which is set to be released in March 2023.
\nCarolyn curre ntly works as a grade 7 teacher\, where she is able to share her passion f or reading and writing with her students. She was born in Calgary\, Albert a\, and moved at the age of twelve to southwestern Ontario\, where she sti ll lives with her husband and two children. Before settling down\, she wor ked overseas in Scotland and Australia\, two places she would gladly call home\, and which have both found their way into her most recent novel.
\nInterviewing Carolyn will be Kay leigh Platz. Kayleigh is a lifetime writer and avid reader who is pass ionate about library advocacy. She spends her days writing about people fa r smarter than herself for the Institute for Quantum Computing. At night\, she tells stories to her cat. Hopefully one day other people will read th ose stories as well. Kayleigh is co-creator of Romance by the Book\, a vir tual book club and blog for lovers of happy endings.
