X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Gain exposure to great literature through
the library&rsquo\;s Great Books program\, which has reached its eighteent
h anniversary. Participants find the Shared Inquiry&trade\; approach\, pop
ularized by the Chicago-based Great Books Foundation\, to be a powerful le
arning tool. There are no right or wrong answers\, no papers and no tests!
The readings are short and are suited to our busy lifestyles. We are curr
ently reading from the anthology <em>Counterparts</em>\, in which the read
ings complement each other by highlighting different aspects of a given th
eme.&nbsp\; We are making <em>Counterparts</em> available gratis upon regi
stration\, thanks to a generous donation from friends and family of a form
er group member.&nbsp\; For more information\, contact Tom Cohn at 631-427
-5165\, x 270 or e-mail to tom_cohn@huntlib.org. Check out our blog at hpl
greatbooks.blogspot.com.&nbsp\; <strong>Registration is required. Open to
 all.&nbsp\;</strong></p>\n<p></p>\n<p><strong>&ldquo\;The Immoderation of
Ifat&rdquo\; by Sara Suleri (1953-1922) and &ldquo\;Now We are Five&rdquo\
 ; by David Sedaris (1956- )</strong> - We finish &ldquo\;Counterparts&rdqu
o\; with the final theme of all: death.&nbsp\; In the &ldquo\;Immoderation
of Ifat\,&rdquo\; an excerpt from her memoir Meatless Days\,Pakistani-Ame
rican author Sara Suleri remembers her sister Ifat\, tragically caught up
in her country&rsquo\;s civil war of the 1970s. American humorist David Se
daris in &ldquo\;Now We are Five&rdquo\; tells the story of a family beach
vacation in which he and his siblings reminisce about their sister Tiffan
y who had long kept herself apart from the family.</p>\nhttps://myhpl.libn
