\nAbout Dí\;a (Dí\;a de los niñ\;os/El Dí\; a de los libros (Day of the Children and Day of the Book):
\n< p>El Dí\;a de los niñ\;os/El Dí\;a de los libros\, also known simply as Dí\;a\, is a celebration of children\, families\, an d reading that culminates yearly on April 30. &ldquo\;Children&rsquo\;s Da y&rdquo\; has been celebrated in many countries around the world officiall y since 1925.\nAfter learning about Mexico&rsquo\;s tradition of ce lebrating April 30th as El Dí\;a del niñ\;o\, children&rsquo\; s book author Pat Mora helped create a new holiday in the United States em phasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cu ltural backgrounds\, linking families to diverse books\, languages and cul tures. DIA is also known as Diversity in Action!

\nAbout the African American Research Library and Cultural Center

The \;Broward County African American
Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) \;is located in the
Sistrunk community\, one of the oldest historically Black communities name
d for one of Fort Lauderdale&rsquo\;s first Black physicians. Opening to t
he public on October 26\, 2002\, AARLCC became the third public library of
its kind in the United States dedicated to the study of Black history and
culture. The 60\,000 square-foot Center serves as a repository of materia
ls related to the local\, national\, and international voices of the Afric
an diaspora with more than 85\,000 books\, manuscripts\, artifacts\, frame
d art\, print\, photography\, audiovisual\, and documents held in our Adul
t Services Section and Special Collections. The Youth Services Section fea
tures a special collection of Coretta Scott King Award books and the Ashle
y Bryan Art Collection from illustrators of African Descent. AARLCC also f
eatures a 5\,000 sq. ft. museum\, a 300-seat state-of-the-art theatre\, an
d a Computer Training Center.
