\nTheo Wederkehr began h is gardening career when he was six\, helping his parents in their garden where they grew mostly things he hated eating. \; When he was \;gi ven a plot of his own\, he grew the two vegetables he liked: lettuce and c arrots. \; The rabbits ate them. \; His \;tastes have broadene d since then\, as has the collection of plants he \;grows. \; He i s fascinated by comparing how different cultures have integrated the varie d food species needed for a complete diet\, and experimenting with what el ements of those diets can be grown to make a complete diet here. \; Th is interest is shaped in part by three years spent living in Cambodia as a teen\, \;and a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Waterloo. \; He runs Carrick Seeds with his family on their farm i n southern Bruce County\, where about 3/4 of the garden area is dedicated to staple crops like corn\, \;rye\, potatoes\, dry beans and peas.&nbs p\; \;
