\nThe Seventeen th Century in Holland witnessed extraordinary innovation in science\, comm erce and artistic expression\; Johannes Vermeer was arguably one of the mo st significant painters of the Dutch Golden Age.This lecture and PowerPoin t will illustrate the life of Vermeer through examination of some of his m ost important and iconic works.
\nPresenter: Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey&rsquo\;s public schools for thirty two years\, the last eightee n of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood\, where she taught En glish\, art history\, and World Languages and Cultures. In October of 2003 \, she was named runner-up for the New Jersey Council for the Humanities ( NJCH) Teacher the Year award\, and was formally recognized by the New Jers ey State Legislature and Governor Codey for this achievement. In May of 20 04\, she was the recipient of the &ldquo\;Innovations in Special Education Award&rdquo\; from the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) and t he Association of Schools and Agencies for the Handicapped (ASAH). Pre-COV ID\, Janet presented illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics in-person\; now she is busier than ever presenting virtually for adult sch ools\, libraries\, museums\, senior centers\, community centers\, and simi lar venues. \;
