The Teens Read Classics Book Club meets ev ery other month during the school year\, and we discuss one \;classic title each meeting. \; Leaves of Grass was first published in 1855\, back when the United States was only 79 years old. His first poems predate the Civil War! Whitman's poems are in free verse and lack strict& nbsp\;structure\, they are mystical and optimistic\, and at their best the y embody the democratic spirit. And "Song \;of Myself" is only about 4 0 pages long\, read the whole thing or only parts. Or if you already have a favorite \;poem or a favorite poet that you want to share\, bring th em along and we'll explore those instead. \; \;
