 el Shapiro (Madison\, Wisconsin 1957) brought his love of old American car
 s\, tools and spare parts\, and a beige &rsquo\;62 Ford Falcon on a solo t
 rip from San Francisco down the Panamericana Highway to Managua\, Nicaragu
 a in the mid-1980s. He is the founder of Libros Sin Fronteras\, an Olympia
 \, WA\, Spanish language book and music distributor. Michael traveled to C
 uba some 15 times between 1998 and 2001 to select and acquire Cuban books 
 and music for US public and university libraries. Shapiro gained his BA de
 gree from the University of California\, Berkeley and MAs in Latin America
 n Studies from the University of New Mexico\, and Library and Information 
 Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Michael has worked with 
 the non-profit library cooperative OCLC-WebJunction\; and IEEE\, the world
 's largest technical professional organization for the advancement of tech
 nology. He has authored numerous articles and essays relating to bilingual
