X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>The Reading for Change&nbsp\;book club wil
l explore Race and Ethnicity Equity and Inclusion (REEI) and the impact of
inequity on individuals in our society. In conjunction with the Fairfield
County Juvenile Court\, we will expand our&nbsp\;knowledge of&nbsp\;syste
 mic racism&nbsp\;and intersectional&nbsp\;social justice&nbsp\;issues\, ex
amine&nbsp\;how we uphold these systems of inequity\, and identify steps w
e can take to combat inequities. We hope to provide an inclusive space to
explore meaningful change. We will spend&nbsp\;two or&nbsp\;three months&n
 bsp\;discussing one&nbsp\;title so&nbsp\;that we&nbsp\;have time&nbsp\;to
 unpack&nbsp\;the topics&nbsp\;in the&nbsp\;book.</p>\n<p>June and July we
 will read:</p>\n<p>Heart Berries: A Memoir&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Terese Marie Mai
hot</p>\n<p>A powerful\, poetic memoir of a woman's coming of age on the S
eabird Island Indian Reservation in the Pacific Northwest. Having survived
a profoundly dysfunctional upbringing only to find herself hospitalized a
nd facing a dual diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar I
I disorder\; Terese Marie Mailhot is given a notebook and begins to write
her way out of trauma. The result is this book\, a memorial for Mailhot's
mother\, a social worker and activist who had a thing for prisoners\; a st
ory of reconciliation with her father--an abusive drunk and a brilliant ar
tist--who was murdered under mysterious circumstances\; and an elegy on ho
w difficult it is to love someone while dragging the long shadows of shame
