Each workshop will be led by haiku poet Abigail Friedman\, who will provid e some brief context to haiku in Japan\, then go over the basics of writin g haiku in English. Participants will then write their own haiku and learn useful haiku writing tips. Presented by River&rsquo\;s Edge Yoga in colla boration with the Old Town North Community Partnership\, Alexandria Poet L aureate Zeina Azzam\, and James M. Duncan Library

Abigail Friedman is an award-winning haiku poet who began composing haiku in Japanese\, wh ile living in Japan as a diplomat. \;She is the author of several haik u-related books and her haiku and writings on haiku have been featured in poetry publications and anthologies around the world. She is a judge for t he popular Golden Triangle haiku contest as well as the founder of a haiku group that currently meets in Washington\, DC.
