\nTrained on five airfields sur rounding Tuskegee University in Alabama\, their training was the first des egregated training to take place within a segregated U.S. military. It bec ame the first dramatic move forward to racial and social equality within A merica.
\nThis presentation will cover the history of the formation of the Tuskegee Airmen\, the unit&rsquo\;s wartime accomplishments and the unit&rsquo\;s overall effect on American society.
\nPresented by: P aul E. Zigo\, a history professor\, author and military historian is the f ounder and director\, of the World War II Era Studies Institute. The insti tute is dedicated to furthering one&rsquo\;s knowledge and understanding o f the WW II era and its impact on history. He is a graduate of Temple Univ ersity and the United States Army War College. He authored and edited in 2 009\, "Witnessing History: The Eisenhower Photographs" featuring all the p hotos of General Dwight D. Eisenhower taken by his personal wartime photog rapher\, Al Meserlin. Zigo was also the executive producer and narrator of the cable network series "Triumphant Spirit: America&rsquo\;s World War I I Generation Speaks" from 2001 to 2004. In 2014\, he authored the book "Th e Longest Walk: The Amazing Story of the 29th Inf. Division on D-Day 6 Jun e 1944" and in 2017\, he co-authored the book "Bataan &ndash\; When Men Ha ve To Die"\, an accounting of the fall of the Philippine Islands to the Ja panese in 1942. Recently\, Mr. Zigo authored and published the book "Uncon ditional Surrender: \; Witnessing History &ndash\; May 1945". \;&n bsp\;He is a 30-year veteran of the United States Army retiring as a Colon el and is a founding sponsor of the National Museum of the US Army.
