 orce President Abraham Lincoln&rsquo\;s administration&rsquo\;s blockade a
 gainst the Confederacy to cut off the Confederacy from all trade with the 
 North\, on December 17\, 1862\, General Grant issued General Order. 11\, w
 hich stated: &ldquo\;The Jews\, as a class\, violating every regulation of
  trade established by the Treasury Department\, and also Department orders
 \, are hereby expelled from the Department.&rdquo\;</p>\n<p><br /><span st
 yle="text-decoration: underline\;">Judah P. Benjamin: Brains of the Confed
 eracy &hellip\; and a Jewish Senator:</span></p>\n<p>As Jefferson Davis&rs
 quo\;s right hand man\, Judah P. Benjamin was the most politically powerfu
 l and important Jew of the 19th century &ndash\; he was also the most wide
 ly hated one in the North and portions of the South. Yet\, he was a United
  States Senator\; the first Jewish leader nominated to the U.S. Supreme Co
 urt\; and served in the Confederacy as Attorney General\, Secretary of War
 \, and Secretary of State.</p>\n<p><br /><strong>About the Presenter:</str
 ong> Rich Rosenthal is the President of the North Jersey Civil War Round T
 able and was with the pre-eminent New Jersey historian and author\, John T
 . Cunningham\, one of the founders of the North Revolution Round Table. He
  has presented numerous lectures on a wide variety of historical subjects 
 and is again presenting at the Parsippany Library. He resides in Parsippan
 y with his wife\, Harriet. They have two daughters and three grandchildren
