The Lewis and Clark Expedition began in 1804\, when Pr esident Thomas Jefferson tasked Meriwether Lewis with exploring the lands west of the Mississippi River that comprised the Louisiana Purchase. Lewis chose William Clark as his co-leader for the mission. The excursion laste d over two years. Along the way they confronted harsh weather\, unforgivin g terrain\, treacherous waters\, injuries\, starvation\, disease and both friendly and hostile Native Americans. Nevertheless\, the approximately 8\ ,000-mile journey was deemed a huge success and provided new geographic\, ecological and cultural information about previously uncharted areas of No rth America.
\nThe interplay in this live performance\, between the two distinct personalities of the Captains\, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark\, made them a leadership team unsurpassed in American history. Those same differences in personality combine as the ingredients for an enterta ining stage performance that mixes humor with facts and allows audiences o f all ages to truly enjoy this educational experience. Adventure\, danger and incredible hardships faced these brave men and their team as they made their trek in the Corps of Discovery.
