\nPamela Vittorio is a professional genealogist\, histo rian\, and part-time Associate Professor in the department of English Lang uage Studies at the New School University in Manhattan. She obtained a cer tificate in genealogical research from Boston University\, and PLCGS (Cana dian Studies\, Librarianship) from the International Institute of Genealog ical Studies\, (Toronto). Over the past decade\, Pamela has completed a va riety of courses at genealogical institutes such as APPGEN\, GRIP\, IGHR\, and SLIG. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists \, New England-APG and NY-APG\, the Ontario Genealogical Society\, NEHGS\, NJ Genealogical Society\, the NYG&\;B\, Forensic-SIG\, and many other genealogical and historical societies. Among her interests are artifacts\, DNA\, maps\, land records\, military history\, Loyalists\, migration and transportation\, socio-linguistics\, and researching families of African A merican\, Canadian\, English\, French\, German\, Irish\, Italian\, Jewish\ , or Scottish heritage&mdash\;many of whom lived along or worked on North American Canals.
