Activist-artist-educator Dr. Amira Davis j oins us for this special event on Black Motherhood. This program will be a combination performance and presentation based on Davis&rsquo\; book\, Jalimusa: An Epic Tale of Black Women&rsquo\;s Mothering. She will perform songs related to Black women&rsquo\;s mothering and read excerpts from her book\, including stories of historical Black women that address i ssues such as representation\, educational and maternal activism\, aging\, reproductive rights\, and spirituality. Question and answer to follow.

Dr. Davis is the author of \;Jalimusa: An Epic Tale of Black Women&rsquo\;s Mothering. She is a mother\, grandmother\, and activi st-artist-educator using African drums\, percussions\, and stories to ente rtain\, educate\, and motivate. She received her master's in education in curriculum and instruction and a doctorate in educational policy studies w ith a concentration in African American studies from the University of Ill inois Urbana-Champaign.
