In this talk we will examine how baseball changed and evolved from an amateur game played for fun and recreation to a professional sport played for money and profit. We will also look at how the rules and equipment changed drastically over a short amount of time t o create the game that we know today.

Brian Sheehy has been a hist ory and wellness teacher at North Andover High for 16 years. While teachin g traditional history classes like AP European History he has also created and developed several sports related electives\, including Sports in Amer ican Culture and Sports of the Past. Brian has also been involved with vin tage baseball for over 20 years and has given lectures and demonstrations on 19th century baseball all over the country and even in Ireland. His 19t h century base ball exhibit has been on display at the Baseball Hall of Fa me\, Fenway Park\, libraries\, museums\, and other minor league ball parks .
