Join us as we welcome the Samford String Q uartet for a live classical concert! As always\, the Quartet will prepare a perfectly balanced program of pieces from their repertoire. This concert is free\, open to the public and to listeners of all ages. \;
\nSamford Quartet is part of the Division of Music in Samford's School of t he Arts. \;Since its inception in 2011\, the ensemble has enjoyed play ing concerts in various parts of the United States and around the world. T he quartet was launched through a generous endowment from \;Drs. Wilto n and Victoria Bunch who love music and Samford University.
\nThe en semble received critical acclaim from its premiere concert. The Birmingham News extolled its &ldquo\;finely blended sound&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;rhythm ic energy&rdquo\;. They added\, &ldquo\;This quartet is on a fast track to putting Samford and Birmingham on the chamber music map&rdquo\;. The Samf ord Quartet has performed together in England\, France\, the Dominican Rep ublic\, and throughout the United States. They performed a successful Carn egie Hall recital in 2016. In addition to performing standard quartet lite rature\, the quartet is also interested in playing very new music\, Appala chian music\, and sacred music. In the spring of 2016\, they gave the worl d premiere of Joel S. Davis&rsquo\; first string quartet: \;Vespers. T he Samford Quartet has also taken the initiative to play for thousands of students in schools across the United States. The players interact with th e students through performances\, teaching and masterclasses.
