The Merrimack River has been transformed f rom one of the most polluted in the nation to one of the region&rsquo\;s m ost popular recreation rivers and vibrant wildlife habitats. Yet every tim e a moderate rainstorm passes through the Merrimack Valley\, you can be su re that raw sewage is being discharged into the Merrimack\, sometimes so m uch that it&rsquo\;s unsafe to swim in the river for days. \;
\nWhy is this happening\, and what is being done to stop it? Join John Macon e\, education and policy specialist at Merrimack River Watershed Council\, for an in-depth slideshow talk on the Merrimack&rsquo\;s two-century-long problem of sewage pollution. John will discuss how the problem began\, wh at&rsquo\;s been done to fix it\, what needs to be done in the future\, an d how you can get involved in helping the Merrimack. John is an Amesbury r esident and has served as MRWC&rsquo\;s outreach and education manager sin ce 2017. Prior to that\, he served as editor of the Newburyport Daily News for 14 years\, and has hosted numerous presentations\, boat tours and wal king tours throughout the Merrimack River region.
