  retiring from the National Institutes of Health. She is an avid vegetable
  gardener\, loves perennials\, and combats non-native invasive species in 
 our parks and grasslands. Her special interests include working with indiv
 iduals with mobility limitations\, raised garden beds\, and tools that acc
 ommodate special needs. She is a certified Weed Warrior\, and an advisor o
 n the Town of Kensington GreenScape committee.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><em><stron
 g>UME Master Gardeners</strong></em> are volunteers who combine their love
  of plants\, people\, and the environment to help residents in their commu
 nities solve problems and make environmentally-sound decisions.&nbsp\;They
  support the University of Maryland Extension (UME) mission by educating r
 esidents about safe\, effective and sustainable horticultural practices th
 at build healthy gardens\, landscapes\, and communities. The UME Master Ga
 rdener Program began in 1978 as a means to extend science-based knowledge 
 to the general public by providing horticultural and pest management exper
 tise to help protect and improve Maryland&rsquo\;s natural resources. Toda
 y\, this popular program can be found in 20 Maryland counties and Baltimor
