Curators Gordon Wilkins and Rachel Vogel w ill lead participants on a virtual tour through the works and themes prese nted in the exhibition Free Association: New Acquisitions in Context.
\ nThis exhibition demonstrates how recently acquired works complement th e Addison&rsquo\;s current holdings\, drawing out new narratives\, juxtapo sitions\, and conversations across time and media. The entire second floor is given over to nine thematic galleries&mdash\;the American West\, inter iors\, the street\, light\, the body and nature\, queer modernism\, classi cal mythology\, Bauhaus legacies\, and the grid&ndash\;each anchored by ne w acquisitions situated in conversation with works that entered the Addiso n&rsquo\;s collection at earlier moments in its nearly 100-year history. T aken together\, this constellation of installations offers new ways of loo king at a collection that is endlessly generative and constantly reinterpr eted.
\nFree Association: New Acquisitions in Context will be on dis play at the Addison from \;September 1\, 2023&ndash\;February 11\, 202 4. The Addison Gallery of American Art is located at 3 Chapel Ave\, Andover\, MA on the campus of Phillip s Academy.
