On Saturday\, October 21\, 2023\, Broward County Library&rsquo\;s African American Library and Cultural Center (AARL CC) will host the fourth edition of its comic conference\, AARLCC-CON. Thi s year&rsquo\;s theme is &ldquo\;SHUJAA\,&rdquo\; the Kiswahili word for & ldquo\;hero\,&rdquo\; and the event will feature comics and authors of tit les related to legends\, heroes\, gods\, and mythology originating in Afri can and African diasporic culture. The event will also feature discussions that highlight the history of African Mythology that directly influenced some of today&rsquo\;s famous superheroes such as Black Panther\, Storm\, and Brother Voodoo.
\nThis year&rsquo\;s featured speakers are Manue l and Geiszel Godoy of Black Sands Comics. The couple founded Black Sands Entertainment in 2016\, and their Black Sands series has become one of the best-selling Black-owned comic brands in the nation. The couple completed successfully on the show &ldquo\;Shark Tank&rdquo\; for further investmen t in their comic brand by business mogul Mark Cuban and comedian Kevin Har t. The event will also feature an array of local authors including Jeff Ca roll and George Moss.
\nOn Friday\, October 20\, 2023\, AARLCC will host a special dance performance by Live In Color called \;&ldquo\;Fun k and Fantasy.&rdquo\; \;With magnificent costumes\, spectacular light s\, and high-energy choreography by Zedric Bembry\, Anthony Velazquez\, Ta urean DeVoe\, and Alexandra Werble\, the show offers a modern\, urban inte rpretation of popular comic characters giving each a new groove. The show is directed and created by Zedric Bembry and Apon Nichols. \;Tickets a re $20.00 per person.
