Francisco José\; de Goya y Lucientes is regarded as the most important Spanish artist of the late \;eighte enth and early nineteenth centuries. His remarkable output included painti ngs\, drawings\, \;engravings\, lithographs\, and frescoes&mdash\;all of which related to the political and social upheavals \;in which he l ived. And he did lead an extraordinary life\, one full of intrigue\, trage dy\, and \;astonishing creative intensity. This talk\, celebrating His panic Heritage Month\, will introduce you \;to that life\, illustrated by Goya&rsquo\;s dazzling works.
\nAbout the Presenter: Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey&rsquo\;s public schools for 32 yea rs\, the last eighteen of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood\ , where she taught English\, art history\, and World Languages and Culture s. In October of 2003 she was named runner-up for the New Jersey Council f or the Humanities (NJCH) Teacher of the Year award and was formally recogn ized by the New Jersey State Legislature and Governor Codey for this achie vement. In May of 2004 she was the recipient of the &ldquo\;Innovations in Special Education Award&rdquo\; from the New Jersey School Boards Associa tion (NJSBA) and the Association of Schools and Agencies for the Handicapp ed (ASAH). Now retired\, Janet presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools\, libraries\, museums\, senior centers \, community centers\, and similar venues.
