 of the Banneker-Douglass Museum and the Maryland Commission on African Ame
 rican History and Culture\, where she is responsible for the preservation 
 and interpretation of Maryland's African American history and culture. &nb
 sp\;Previously she held the position of Research Archivist in the Legacy o
 f Slavery Division\, at the Maryland State Archives. &nbsp\;In her role as
  Research Archivist\, Maya has worked on projects including but not limite
 d to the Flight to Freedom in Maryland\, Slavery and the War of 1812\, and
  Enslaved Emancipation in Maryland. &nbsp\;In addition\, Maya served as th
 e Vice Chair of the Annapolis 1864 Commission to Commemorate the Emancipat
 ion of Slavery in Maryland and is currently serving as a member of the Har
 riet Tubman Park and Visitor Center exhibition team. &nbsp\;Her article\, 
 Ran Off or Carried Away: Maryland Slaves that Came into the Protection of 
 British Forces during the War of 1812\, was published in the Maryland Gene
 alogical Society journal. &nbsp\;Prior to her arrival at the Archives\, Ma
 ya was on staff at the City Museum of Washington\, DC. &nbsp\;Maya\, a nat
 ive Washingtonian\, is a graduate of Howard and George Washington Universi
