Salt Lake Arts Academy students are encour aged to explore their world through many different lenses\, across subject s. In these pieces our Visual Arts students in Grades 6-8 express how they see and understand their world: in their own lives\, in school and in our larger community. We asked our students to reflect on what is important t o them and how they might communicate an idea through their own artistic c reations.
\nFor inspiration\, students traveled to the Utah Museum o f Contemporary Art and had an in-school visit from The Springville Museum to observe how artists from history\, regions and backgrounds interpret th eir ideas. After a reflection period of discussion and idea sharing\, stud ents had their choice of subject and materials to create the pieces in thi s exhibit\, expressing their own ideas about what they see important and r elevant in their surroundings.
