 dquo\;A Christmas Carol\,&rdquo\; the story of a mean-spirited miser whose
  soul is saved thank to the aid of a series of ghosts. Ebenezer Scrooge&rs
 quo\;s redemption captured the imagination of many and helped to redefine 
 Christmas as the endearing holiday we now enjoy at the end of every year. 
 But before Dickens\, Christmas-time was a season celebrated in a much diff
 erent fashion. We now think of Halloween as the time of the year for all t
 hings spooky\, but for most of the 19th century Christmas was romanticized
  for being the occasion when the veil between the here and the hereafter w
 as at its thinnest. It was a time for reflecting on the fleeting nature of
  mortality and for taking account of one&rsquo\;s actions\, in particular 
 one&rsquo\;s failings. It was a time for ghost stories.</em></p>\n<p>Here 
 at <strong>Under the Mountain</strong>\, the Victorian tradition of tellin
 g ghost stories at Christmas is alive and well! Join us on December 10\, 2
 023 at 7 PM\, for a FREE evening of scary ghost stories\, performed LIVE b
 y award-winning voice actor <strong>Matt Godfrey</strong>!</p>\n<p>Winner 
 of the Audiofile Earphones Award and a multiple-time nominee for the Socie
 ty of Voice Arts &amp\; Sciences Awards and the Independent Audiobook Awar
 ds\, Godfrey is a fellow lover of the strange and the uncanny\; and he has
  performed audio recordings for works by the likes of Michael McDowell\, P
 oppy Z. Brite\, Jonathan Janz\, Roger Zelazny and Joe Lansdale. A bona fid
 e southerner\, Godfrey understands the power of storytelling to take you a
 nywhere in the world\, traversing even life and death.</p>\n<p>On Sunday\,
  Dec. 10\, at the O&rsquo\;Neal Library\, Godfrey will perform a live read
 ing of a two modern tales of otherworldly dread and wonder. We won&rsquo\;
 t tell you the name of these stories in advance\, but we promise you an ev
 ening in the tradition of a fireside ghost story\, replete with tea\, hot 
 chocolate\, and seasonal sweets.</p>\n<p>Doors at 6:30pm</p>\n<p>The readi
