Bexley Public Library has stepped into the ring to challenge Westerville Public Library as a part of the revived Bat tle for the Oar competition between Bexley&rsquo\;s Capital University and Westerville&rsquo\;s Otterbein University. Today the libraries will compe te to see which can bring more patrons through its doors in this high-stak es face off.
\nOriginally started as a canoe race between the two sc hools\, &ldquo\;The Battle for the Oar&rdquo\; or &ldquo\;T he Oars&rdquo\; competition started in the 1890s\, and spilled over into f ootball\, basketball and other sports. This historic rivalry was reawakene d in 2021 and the competition was extended to include their respective com munities\, and now their public libraries.
\nBexley Public Library i s encouraging all community members to stop by anytime today (or even seve ral times) between 10 am and 8 pm when they&rsquo\;ll be passing out free stickers and buttons in celebration of the competition. As an extra incent ive\, all books\, music\, materials\, and more will be offered free of cha rge with their library card.
