"The Skull" is Jon Klassen's retelling of a traditional Tyrolean folktale originating from Austria. He first read th is folktale in an Alaskan library and kept thinking about it well after he put the book down. He revisited the story a year later and found that his memory of the ending had changed over time\, which led him to create his newest book.
