In this hour-long workshop\, renowned Spok ane playwright Bryan Harnetiaux and friends will meet with area youth and instruct them on how to write a ten-minute play. Youth will experience a t able-read of a play\, examine the difference between writing for film vers us theatre\, and learn about writing a theatrical masterpiece all their ow n.
\nIn 2024\, Spokane Civic Theatre will proudly present its celebr ated Playwrights&rsquo\; Forum Festival\, which\, since 1983\, has showcas ed new one-acts by playwrights from across the region. Youth in elementary school through college are encouraged to submit their short plays through the Playwrights' Forum Festival website\, [link here]. This workshop will help prepare youth to write and submit their original work.

\nAbout the presenters:
\nBryan Harnetiaux has been a Playwright-in-Residen ce at Spokane Civic Theatre since 1982. Thirteen of his plays have been pu blished\, and his works \;have been performed throughout the United St ates.
\nJean Hardie has been active in the Spokane regional theatre community since 1981 as an actress\, director\, choreographer\, teacher an d playwright. \; At Spokane Civic Theatre\, she was the director of th e Box &lsquo\;n&rsquo\; Hat Players as well as the Civic Summer Camp progr am for many years\, during which time she flexed her writing muscles creat ing many scripts for the young performers. She taught Drama at Saint Georg e&rsquo\;s School until the pandemic told her it was time to retire and co ncentrate on taking some of the ideas rattling around in her head and turn ing them into short plays. \; Most recently\, she has been fortunate e nough to have a play accepted to each of the last four years of the Spokan e Civic's Playwrights' Forum Festival. \;
