English for Families is a series of 5 inte ractive classes for parents and children (ages 6-12) that focuses on devel oping English vocabulary and literacy skills through strategic and fun sto ry reading. The program's goal is to develop the literacy skills of the wh ole family with the help of English teachers\, laying a path to success at work and school. Each week focuses on a different learning objective and builds upon the lesson from the week before. Each week\, a book is feature d\, and the families discuss the book's theme while also focusing on learn ing vocabulary\, comprehension\, and additional literacy skills. The class es provide parents with effective strategies to address challenges their c hildren may face while attending school. The curriculum is also designed t o develop participants' second language skills and literacy using books\, flashcards\, and direct instruction.
