\nThe term "zines" (/ ziin/ ZEENS\; short for magazine or fanzine) was borne out of fervent sci- fi fandoms in the early 1950s\, extended through to the punk music scenes of the 1970s\, the riot grrrl movement of the 1990s and beyond. An open-en ded self-publishing format\, zines often transcend designated boundaries a nd reach into classrooms as educational tools\, archivists? Maps documenti ng local histories and shifting geographies\, even as an experimental form of art therapy. As a vehicle for creative expression\, anyone with a pen\ , paper\, and scissors can create their zine to share with their friends a nd communities\, making them one of the most democratic forms of literatur e.

\nAbout the Artist:
\nCaro lina Cueva was born in Lima\, Peru\, and lives and works in Miami\, Florid a. Cueva studied at the School of Visual arts and graduated with a BFA in 2007. Cueva is an interdisciplinary artist working in sculpture\, performa nce\, and 2D works of art. Her work examines identity\, ancestry\, and dis placement through personal narrative\, history and the transcendental. She is one half of the performance art duo \;Cuentos Retablados along wit h artist Jahaira Rios Campos y Galvez.

\nAbo ut the Vasari Project:
\nThe Vasari Project is a library co llection dedicated to documenting\, collecting\, and preserving Miami-Dade County's art history from 1945 to the present. It is a living archive tha t grows through contributions from artists\, art professionals\, exhibitio n spaces\, galleries\, institutions\, and private \;donors.
\nTh e Vasari Project is a resource for ongoing research\, scholarship\, public ations\, artists' projects\, exhibitions\, and events. The archive collect s documentation rather than original works of art composed primarily of pr inted matter: correspondence\, press clippings\, photographs\, posters\, b ooks\, exhibition catalogs\, artists' files\, oral histories\, and other e phemeral \;materials.
\nThe Vasari Project holds a zine collecti on that now includes a circulating collection located within the YA sectio n at the Main Library.

\nAbout the Division of Special Collections &\; Archives \;
\nMiami-Dade Public Library System&rsquo\;s Division of Special Collections &\; Arch ives is located at the Main Library and holds rare and irreplaceable histo rical materials for the benefit of the public and scholarly community. The y oversee the Helen Muir Florida Collection\, 16 \;mm Film Collection\ , Cuban Collection of Rare Books &\; Ephemera\, Genealogy Collection\, Vasari Project archive\, and Rare and antiquarian books from as early as t he 17th \;century. The Division aims to provide the public with the co ntents of these collections at their request\, which include books\, origi nal manuscripts\, over 18\,000 photographs\, prints\, artifacts\, audiovis ual resources\, and electronic media.
