The Battle of Olustee was the largest batt le fought in Florida during the American Civil War. The opposing sides wer e evenly matched\, but the casualties were disproportionately high\, parti cularly for the Union forces. The brutal fighting of the battle produced o ne of the highest ratios of casualties per men engaged of the entire war. The engagement effectively curtailed a major Union offensive\, and subsequ ent operations shifted elsewhere\, once again making Florida a backwater t heater in the war. The presentation will include authentic uniforms and eq uipment of the American Civil War.
