 ng>ABOUT THE AUTHOR</strong></p>\n<p>Matthew Desmond is the Maurice P. Dur
 ing Professor of Sociology and the founder and principal investigator of t
 he Eviction Lab at Princeton University. A former member of the Harvard So
 ciety of Fellows\, he is also the author of the award-winning book <em>On 
 the Fireline</em> and <em>Poverty by America</em>. He has written essays o
 n educational inequality\, dangerous work\, political ideology\, race and 
 social theory\, and the inner-city housing market. He is a Contributing Wr
 iter for <em>The New York Times Magazine</em>\, and his writing has appear
 ed in <em>The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, The New Yorker</em> a
