X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Climate change and other human-caused disr
uptions to our natural environment have resulted in measurable declines in
the ability of nature to support life\, including human life. Transformat
ive change of human behavior is urgently needed to reverse the decline of
life on Earth.</p>\n<p>Despite humans&rsquo\; dislike of change\, our deni
al of unpleasant facts\, and tendancy to procrastinate\, an unprecedented
level of cooperation&mdash\;fast\, deep and wide&mdash\;will be required t
o turn things around. If we stay on our current path\, future generations
will be left with big\, untenable messes and unstable societies.</p>\n<p>F
ortunately\, we have the technology we need to make the change\, and it&rs
quo\;s totally possible. This program discusses how we got here\, why it&r
squo\;s important to act now\, how we can come together as a society to ma
ke the necessary changes\, and how we can work to generate consensus on co
mplicated issues.</p>\n<p>Amy McMorrow Hunter is Founder and President/CEO
of The Climate Economy\, a nonprofit for education and experimentation on
business models and lifestyles that are good for the climate\, economy an
d humanity.</p>\n<p>Illinois Humanities is supported in part by the Nation
al Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom and the Illinois
General Assembly [through the Illinois Arts Council Agency]\, as well as
 by contributions<br />from individuals\, foundations\, and corporations.</
