 ntification of the Russian royal family\, from the initial analysis of a s
 et remains in 1991 to the final identification of Alexei and one of his si
 sters in 2009. This was a long and winding path\, fraught with pretenders\
 , such as Anna Anderson\, and challenges to the science. We will discuss h
 ow the scientific techniques advanced between the two recoveries and the c
 omplex history of the identification.</p>\n<p>Suni&nbsp\;M. Edson is an As
 sistant Technical Leader of the Past Accounting Section of the Armed Force
 s DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL)\, and has been part of the mission
  to identify missing U.S. service members for almost 25 years. She recentl
 y earned her PhD in Forensic Genetics and a graduate certificate in FIGG. 
 She was part of the team that worked on the DNA testing of the remains loc
