 nity.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The first library established on the Historic Westsid
 e was located in a mere storefront on &ldquo\;D&rdquo\; Street to serve th
 e families of African American Hoover Dam migrant workers. The concept of 
 a library in the predominately black neighborhood was unheard of. The wome
 n of OPERATION LIFE led the fight to bring books to this community in 1973
 .</p>\n<p>With the expansion of residents and the need for more space and 
 services\, the new library at the 951 West Lake Mead location was built in
  1988. In 1995\, due to protests and community pressure\, an extension was
  built to provide a Performing Arts Theatre for the thriving community.</p
